Academic Profile
Dr. Kakhaber Kalichava earned his BA in History from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in 2009–2013, followed by an MA in Modern and Contemporary History in 2013–2015 and a Ph.D. in History in 2015–2019. During his doctoral studies, he completed a ten-month Erasmus Mundus research exchange at the University of Łódź’s Faculty of International and Political Studies in 2016–2017.
He has served as a visiting lecturer at Tbilisi State University since 2015 and has taught IB Diploma Programme History and Global Politics at New School International School of Georgia since 2017. He has also worked as an IB examiner since 2021.
His research focuses on modern, Soviet and post-Soviet history, particularly the Russo-Georgian War, conflicts in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region, Russia’s passportization policy, Soviet repression and memory politics, and comparative conflict analysis involving Georgia and Kosovo.

Dr. Kakhaber Kalichava is a historian of modern and contemporary history, trained in Georgia and abroad, whose work bridges archival research, fieldwork, and teaching on Soviet and post-Soviet conflicts and Russia–Georgia relations.

Kalichava is affiliated with leading research networks on Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, has received national recognition for his work on the 2008 Russo‑Georgian War, and serves as a reviewer and advisor for international academic journals.
